The Imaging and Medical therapy Beamline (IMBL) was holding a satellite workshop on the clinical applications of synchrotron radiation at the Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science, adjacent the Australian Synchrotron. The objective of this first open-forum meeting is to establish what some of the important research directions are in Australian clinical research community that can be addressed with synchrotron radiation imaging and therapy techniques. Starting at 9:00 am (Feb 20, Sat), three sessions are planned with a morning tea, lunch and a post workshop BBQ at 3:30 pm for clinicians to interact with synchrotron experts for informal discussions.

•    Morning Session 1: Vascular Imaging Techniques in the Coronary, Brain, Lung, Systemic & Tumour networks

•    Morning Session 2:  Radiotherapy Techniques including leading edge Microbeam, Photon Activation & Contrast Enhanced Therapies

•    Afternoon Session: Respiratory & Soft tissue Imaging Techniques

Format of each session:
Short talks from experts on the essential characteristics and limitations of the various techniques at the IMBL, invited talks from clinicians on research problems and an open-floor invitation for all participants to direct questions to the experts about other research problems.

* During these extended question-answer periods participants are invited to bring a 2-3 slide powerpoint overview of the research problem on a memory stick for discussion.

Location:
Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science (Building 220)
770 Blackburn Road
